The United States again bombed multiple military targets in Iran after accusing Tehran of launching drone attacks against ships in the Strait of Hormuz. The escalation tests the fragile ceasefire negotiated days earlier to ensure commercial navigation.
The U.S. Central Command (Centcom) confirmed Saturday’s attacks. According to its report, the offensive responded to Iranian aggression and targeted radars, air defense systems, drone warehouses, and naval mine positions.
What Triggered the New Offensive?
The trigger was an attack attributed to Iran against vessels in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, a critical gateway for the global oil market. Washington interpreted the action as a direct violation of the agreement signed in mid-June.
Centcom asserted that Tehran had the opportunity to respect the cessation of hostilities following a previous bombing on Friday, but chose not to. The U.S. military response sought to neutralize aerial and naval capabilities that Iran uses to threaten maritime transit.

Tensions had eased slightly after a memorandum of understanding was signed on June 17. That agreement included the end of the U.S. blockade, opening of the strait, and a path to negotiate over the nuclear program. However, rapid clashes demonstrate the weakness of the pact.
The U.S. Central Command reported that commercial ship traffic remains active. In a previous statement, the agency had reported the safe passage of approximately 55 merchant vessels, a volume essential for global energy supplies.
What Did Donald Trump Say?
President Donald Trump reacted harshly through Truth Social. He accused Iran of breaking the ceasefire and issued a direct warning: if attacks continue, the United States will intensify its offensive until the Islamic Republic «ceases to exist.»
Trump argued that his country’s forces were forced to complete militarily the work that, according to him, they had begun successfully. His tone reflects an inflexible stance toward Tehran and sends a signal of strength amid the pre-election process.
On Friday, the president had already called Iran’s behavior reckless for launching at least four attack drones against vessels in Hormuz. His messages seek to place exclusive blame on the Iranian government for breaking the operational pause.
