The U.S. Secret Service confirmed Monday it is investigating a video from Iranian state television that appears to threaten the life of Barron Trump, President Donald Trump’s youngest son. The video, distributed by state broadcaster IRIB, shows locations the 20-year-old frequents publicly and marks the first time hardline Iranian media have directly targeted him.

The U.S. Secret Service confirmed Monday that it is investigating a video from Iranian state television. The clip appears to threaten the life of Barron Trump, the youngest son of President Donald Trump.

The piece, distributed by state-run broadcaster IRIB, shows locations that the 20-year-old frequently visits publicly. It is the first time that hardline Iranian media have directly targeted him.

The content of the video concerning presidential security

The video lasts nearly three minutes and opens with a graphic in English asking where to kill Barron Trump. It includes animations of sites linked to the young man, including Trump Tower in New York.

According to Euronews, the material also shows the location of his university and points where his security detail would be stationed. The video also suggests a $10 million reward for information about his movements.

These figures and descriptions have not been independently verified by international media. The Secret Service has also not confirmed the operational details that appear in the recording.

The video also includes unfounded claims about the young man’s personal life. Such content seeks to create the impression that his movements are being closely monitored.

What does the Secret Service say about the threat?

Spokesperson Nate Herring confirmed to CNN that the agency is aware of the video. «The U.S. Secret Service investigates anything that could be perceived as a threat,» Herring said.

The official avoided providing operational details. «For security reasons, we do not discuss intelligence matters related to protection,» he added in his statement.

A federal source told CNN that this video is part of a broader campaign. Other previous clips have included information about Trump family movements.

An escalation of threats since the war with Iran

Iran’s media attacks against the Trump family intensified after the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The former supreme leader died in February, at the beginning of the war between the U.S., Israel, and Iran.

Before this case, there were already public threats against First Lady Melania Trump. In July, a media outlet affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), Iran’s elite military force, published a video about her location in New York.

Barron Trump is the youngest son of Donald and Melania Trump. He is an adult and, according to reports, is pursuing university studies while maintaining a limited public profile.

In May, U.S. media also reported an alleged plot targeting Ivanka Trump, the president’s eldest daughter. No federal agency has publicly confirmed the details of that case to date.

Precedent: Trump’s escape during the NATO summit

President Trump himself has publicly acknowledged the risk. In July, during the NATO summit in Turkey, he stated that he likely is on some Iranian target list.

«They are evil and sick people,» Trump said about the Iranian regime on that occasion. Shortly thereafter, he left the country in secret aboard an alternate military aircraft.

A person with knowledge of the case told CNN that the departure was executed as part of an elaborate maneuver. Trump allegedly exited while hidden inside a food service truck, amid a specific threat of a shoulder-fired missile.

Background: from Soleimani to protests in Tehran

Tension between Washington and Tehran has a concrete origin. In January 2020, a drone strike ordered by Trump killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani in Baghdad.

Since then, Iranian officials have promised retaliation on various occasions. The death of Khamenei in February renewed that discourse of revenge within sectors of the regime.
