Renee Good’s family filed on October 1st 2 civil lawsuits in a federal court in Minnesota over her death in Minneapolis. A immigration agent shot her during a federal operation on January 7th; her relatives are seeking compensation and an examination of the decisions behind the operation.
What are the lawsuits against Renee Good demanding?
The first lawsuit names only the United States. According to the statement from the family’s lawyers, it seeks compensation for Renee Good’s suffering before her death and for her family’s losses. It also includes the harm that Becca Good claims to have suffered from witnessing the shooting.

The second lawsuit targets Ross and officials linked to Operation Metro Surge, the federal immigration enforcement deployment in Minnesota. Among the defendants are Stephen Miller, Deputy White House Chief of Staff; Tom Homan, responsible for the president’s border policy; and Kristi Noem, former Secretary of Homeland Security. The action also names other officials and 10 unidentified agents.
The plaintiffs contend that the operation sought to violate the rights of people of Somali and Hispanic origin and silence those observing the agents. That is a claim by the familynot a fact established by a court. Both lawsuits seek unspecified compensation amounts.
What happened on January 7th in Minneapolis?
Renee Good, a U.S. citizen and mother of 3 children, was shot by agent Jonathan Ross inside her vehicle in Minneapolis. According to the City of Minneapolis, emergency services responded shortly after 9:30 a.m., and Good died later at a hospital.
The circumstances of the use of force remain disputed. Federal officials claimed Ross acted in self-defense because Good used the vehicle as a weapon. The family rejects that version and contends the agent used excessive force.
