Why is USCIS raising these fees?

USCIS announced that several immigration fees will increase due to inflation. The adjustment covers the period between July 2025 and July 2026.

On July 22, 2025, the agency published a notice in the Federal Register. That notice announced the implementation of fees related to H.R. 1 law.

According to USCIS, starting in fiscal year 2026, the Department of Homeland Security will adjust certain fees. That adjustment will continue in each subsequent fiscal year, according to the same law.

How much will the annual asylum fee increase?

The annual asylum application will increase from $102 to $105. This is one of the most commonly used forms by migration protection applicants.

Similarly, Form I-131, used to request parole or travel documents, will also increase. Its cost will rise from $1,020 to $1,050.

What about work permits and TPS?

Form I-765, used to request an initial work permit, will also increase. Its cost will rise from $560 to $570.

This form applies to asylum applicants, parole, or Temporary Protected Status (TPS) applicants. Meanwhile, the TPS application, Form I-821, will also increase.

That form will increase from $510 to $520. Thus, the four procedures mentioned will have moderate but widespread increases.

When do these new fees take effect?

The inflation-adjusted fees will go into effect on October 16, 2026. That date marks a key point for those planning to submit applications.

«If you submit an application with a postmark date of October 16, 2026 or later… you must include the new corresponding fee,» USCIS stated in its official notice in the Federal Register.

The agency also warned about the consequences of a payment error. «Any application… that does not include the correct filing fee will be rejected,» USCIS added in that same notice.

That is why it is critical to verify the exact amount before sending any application. An incorrect payment could result in the total rejection of the petition.

New USCIS fees starting October 16

Form Previous Fee New Fee
Annual asylum application $102 $105
I-131 (travel and parole documents) $1,020 $1,050
I-765 (initial work permit) $560 $570
I-821 (Temporary Protected Status) $510 $520
