On two occasions, in 2019 and in 2021, he attempted to enter the country through John F. Kennedy Airport in New York. On both occasions, agents reviewed his phone upon arrival.

According to the case, those reviews found evidence linking him to those crimes. Subsequently, Alisigwe was found guilty in District Court.

After the conviction, he requested that the evidence be suppressed from the judicial proceedings. He argued that the inspections were conducted without a prior court order.
