The Television Academy announced the nominations for the 78th edition of the Emmy Awards, and “The Pitt” took the lead with 25 mentions. Close behind was “Hacks,” which will close its run with 24 nominations and reinforced its place among the most recognized comedies of the season.
The ceremony will be held on Monday September 14 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, with Mariska Hargitay as host. The list of candidates confirms broad competition, with drama, comedy, limited series, and variety titles that reflect the current weight of streaming in American television.
Which Series Lead the Race?
“The Pitt” was the big winner of the morning by volume of nominations. Beyond its presence in the main category, it added recognition for Noah Wyle, Katherine LaNasa, Shawn Hatosy, Gerran Howell and other cast members. The result solidifies it as one of the most solid productions of this season.

“Hacks” was not far behind and set a record for a comedy series with 24 nominations. Jean Smart returned to the race for lead actress, while Hannah Einbinder, Janelle James, Megan Stalter, Laurie Metcalf, and Kaitlin Olson also appear among the candidates. The series arrives at its finale with a final round of critical recognition.
Behind them came “Widow’s Bay” with 19 nominations, “Pluribus” with 18, and “Beef” with 16. This group shows less predictable competition than in other years, because it mixes new productions with already established franchises. It also shows that the 2026 television conversation revolves around very different platforms and bets.
Which Actors Appear Multiple Times?
One of the most striking details is the number of performers with dual presence in categories across different genres. Matthew Rhys, Jason Bateman, Nick Offerman, Laurie Metcalf, and Colman Domingo are among the most repeated names. This pattern confirms that the Academy continues to reward versatile careers and work distributed across multiple productions.

Rhys and Bateman made history by becoming the first male actors nominated for lead actor in drama, comedy, and limited series or anthology television. This data illustrates how current television no longer pigeonholes performers as much. It also demonstrates that a flexible trajectory can open more doors in a single season.
In drama categories, names like Sterling K. Brown, Gary Oldman, Mark Ruffalo, Rufus Sewell, Zendaya, and Keri Russell reinforce the breadth of competition. In comedy, Quinta Brunson continues to stand out
