Walmart began applying massive price cuts on thousands of summer products, from food to household items. The measure is already available in physical stores, on its digital platforms, and also at Sam’s Club, with discounts aimed at relieving the daily expenses of millions of consumers in the United States.
The chain reported that the cuts affect meat, soft drinks, ice cream, fruits, disposable items, detergents, and grilling products. The announcement comes at a time when many families continue facing pressure from the cost of living, according to recent reports from CBS and surveys cited by The Guardian.
What Products Had Price Cuts?
The discounts are already active at Walmart, Walmart.com, Sam’s Club, and their mobile apps. The company explained that the price cuts are part of its usual low-price strategy, though this time they encompass more categories and a broader selection of seasonal items.
Among the most visible cuts is fresh ground beef of 1 pound, which dropped from $6.74 to $5.94. Fresh sweet corn went from $0.68 to $0.25 per piece, one of the most aggressive reductions. Also, a bag of fresh red cherries of 2.25 pounds dropped from $11.18 to $5.63.
Other products with price cuts include Great Value ice cream of 48 ounces, which dropped from $2.97 to $2.50. Classic Lay’s potato chips of 8 ounces also came down to $2.50. In beverages, a 24-pack of Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, and Coca-Cola Zero Sugar went from $14.97 to $9.97.
Why Is Walmart Launching These Price Cuts?
Walmart said that the cuts started last week and extend to thousands of products. The company did not officially attribute the measure to a request from the White House, although President Donald Trump did confirm it in a recent social media post. In his message, he claimed that Walmart will reduce prices «at the request» of his administration.

The corporate response was different. Walmart did not comment on the presidential statement and limited itself to presenting the measure as part of its competitive pricing strategy. This distinction is important, because the announcement mixes commercial marketing with a very visible political message.
A CBS analyst described the move as a situation where both actors benefit. Trump reinforces his message about affordability, and Walmart strengthens its image.
