Florida Receives First Mail Ballots for November Elections

Florida’s Elections Division began receiving the first mail ballots for the general elections on November 3, 2026, opening the mail-in voting process in which participation by nearly 8 million citizens is projected. The first ballots returned correspond to Florida residents abroad and active-duty military personnel, prior to mass distribution to voters within the country.

How Did Mail Ballot Reception Begin?

The initial phase was activated after dispatching nearly 200,000 electoral envelopes to absent voters outside the United States. The election supervisors from the state’s 67 counties confirmed that they are already counting approximately 150 votes returned to their respective central offices.

In the initial breakdown by political affiliation, voters registered as Democrats submitted 63 ballots, compared to 39 from Republicans and 26 from independent voters. Broward County concentrated nearly three-quarters of the ballots distributed in this first group sent abroad.

Meanwhile, Hillsborough County dispatched 2,721 ballots for military and overseas voters. The county’s election supervisor, Craig Latimer, announced that his office expects to send more than 146,000 ballots to domestic voters starting October 1st.

«I encourage mail-in voters to track their ballot and subscribe to notifications, so they know when we send it and when we receive it at our office,» Latimer stated. The official added that mail shipments typically take approximately one week to reach their destination.

Non-in-person voting represents a fundamental tool in the state’s electoral dynamics. In the 2022 midterm elections, 7.8 million people voted, while in the 2018 elections, 8.3 million citizens participated.

The postal method represented 35% of total votes in 2022 and 31% four years prior. Meanwhile, in-person early voting captured 29% of votes in 2022 and nearly 33% in 2018.

Currently, the Republican Party maintains an advantage of 1.55 million registered voters over the Democratic Party in Florida. Historically, conservative organizations have countered the Democratic mail-in advantage through solid turnout at early voting polls.
