How Will the Beta Test Work?

The second phase will begin in late August or early September. Any student or parent will be able to request to participate through StudentAid.gov. Interested individuals should wait for the official opening of applications. The Department of Education will publish instructions when it becomes available.

Beta test participants will complete a real application. This is not just a technical practice. During the beta, students can include up to 20 institution codes. They will also be able to generate official information records for universities. The test does not guarantee a scholarship. The institution must still review eligibility, income, and academic requirements.

What Should Families Prepare?

The first step is creating an account at StudentAid.gov. The student and each financial contributor may need separate credentials. Parents of dependent students should prepare tax information. They should also gather data on income, assets, and family size.

FAFSA uses financial information to calculate the Student Aid Index. That index helps determine financial need. Students without U.S. citizenship must review their eligibility, since not all individuals can receive federal aid through FAFSA.

Some students may access state or institutional programs. The financial aid office can explain available options. Immigrant families should avoid using false information.
