President Donald Trump ordered a suspension of new United States bombardments against Iran after nearly 14 days of daily attacks. The decision seeks to create space for diplomatic conversations, although the White House has not announced a formal ceasefire.

The pause occurred on Friday, July 24, as American advisors evaluated military and diplomatic options. Sources cited by Axios indicated that Trump decided not to authorize a new attack prepared by the Pentagon.

The measure comes after a new escalation in the conflict that began on February 28. Washington and Tehran exchanged attacks following the collapse of a temporary agreement to reduce hostilities.

What is Known About the Military Pause?

Trump ordered no new attacks against Iran after 13 consecutive days of U.S. military operations. The order does not imply a permanent commitment nor rule out the possibility that bombardments could resume. The president made the decision to “provide greater space for diplomacy.” The information is based on sources close to the decision cited by Axios.

Israeli media also reported that the United States was preparing a larger-scale attack. However, Trump reportedly postponed that operation to give Iran another opportunity to return to negotiations. Iranian Health Minister Hossein Kermanpour stated that there were no attacks during the last night. His statement coincided with reports about the order to temporarily suspend U.S. operations.

Trump stated that his envoys maintain contacts with Iranian representatives. The president mentioned that there were 6 conversations underway during a press appearance at the White House. However, public versions remain limited. Iran has not announced a definitive agreement with the United States, and Washington maintains its military options available.

Why Does Diplomacy Return to the Center?

The suspension comes after weeks of tension in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. That maritime route is key to global energy commerce and to oil transport from several producing countries. Officials from Oman participated in mediation efforts with Iran. The conversations include the possible reopening and normalization of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
