ALERT: Man Impersonated ICE Agent to Extort in Miami

A man identified as Jonathan Christian González Reyes was arrested in Miami-Dade County after impersonating an agent with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to extort employees of a food truck. The suspect arrived armed at a food establishment to demand money in exchange for alleged immigration protection, according to police records and security videos.

How Did the Fake ICE Agent Operate in Miami?

According to the criminal complaint, González Reyes, 45, went to a food truck located in northwest Miami-Dade carrying a holstered pistol and a metal badge on his belt. The individual falsely presented himself to employees as the highest-ranking ICE officer in South Florida.

Business owner Luis Rodríguez told local media that the subject attempted to take advantage of his workers’ vulnerability. The man explicitly mentioned that he knew of the presence of two Nicaraguan citizens and one Haitian at the establishment.

Subsequently, he demanded cash payments under the promise of resolving alleged legal problems for the employees and preventing immigration raids. When workers refused to pay the extortion, the individual became hostile toward the staff.

What Threats Did the Business Workers Report?

The business owner stated that the suspect returned weeks later in a serious incident captured by security cameras. During that encounter, González Reyes drew a firearm, pointed it at one of the victims, and made death threats.

The arrest police report details that the defendant threatened to strike the victim’s son with the butt of the pistol. He also warned that he would fraudulently place narcotics inside the kitchen to force the closure of the business.

Surveillance footage obtained by NBC6 showed the suspect arriving at the parking lot in a private vehicle equipped with blue emergency lights and police sirens. Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Department authorities arrested the individual after executing a traffic stop warrant in front of his residence.
