Report Reveals Mexicans Generate Nearly 8% of U.S. GDP

The population of Mexican origin generates 2.3 trillion dollars annually in the United States. This figure is equivalent to nearly 8% of the national Gross Domestic Product. The data appears in the report The 2026 LDC U.S. Latino Economic Impact Report, prepared by the Latino Donor Collaborative. The study measures the economic activity of Latinos during 2024.

The complete Latino economy reached 4.4 trillion dollars that year. If it were an independent country, it would rank fourth in the world economy. Mexicans account for 57% of Latino economic production in the United States. They also represent the largest Latino group, with 39 million people. The report reveals an important reality. The Latino population not only grows demographically, but also drives employment, consumption, and business creation.

How Much Do Mexicans Generate?

Mexicans contributed 2.3 trillion dollars to U.S. GDP during 2024. The figure far exceeds the economic output of many entire nations. Their contribution equals 57% of Latino GDP in the United States. It also represents nearly 8% of the entire national economy.

The Mexican community includes immigrants, U.S.-born citizens, and permanent residents. Most of its members have U.S. citizenship or legal residency. This composition helps explain their economic stability. It also demonstrates that the Mexican economy in the United States does not depend solely on recent immigration.

• Puerto Ricans rank second among Latino origin groups. Their population reaches 6.1 million and represents 9% of the Latino economy.
• Cubans total 3 million and contribute 4%. Salvadorans reach 2.8 million and also represent 4%.
• Dominicans reach 2.5 million. Guatemalans reach 2.2 million, while Colombians total 1.8 million.

The remaining 14% corresponds to people of other Latin American origins. The distribution confirms the diversity of the Hispanic community. However, Mexican economic weight remains dominant. Its presence extends from California and Texas to Illinois, Arizona, and other states.

How Large Is the Latino Economy?

The Latino economy produced 4.4 trillion dollars in 2024. That production would be the fourth largest in the world if measured as a national economy. Only the United States, China, and Germany would exceed that volume. The figure positions Latinos as an international economic force. Latino GDP grew faster than the rest of the U.S. economy. In 2024, the Latino economy increased 6.4%, compared to 2.4% in the rest of the country.

Additionally, Latinos contributed 28.2% of the total economic growth of the United States. Their participation exceeds their proportion within the national population. The disposable income of Latino households reached 3.4 trillion dollars. This indicator grew 8% annually, double the increase recorded in the rest of the country.
