What New Gameplay Mechanics Were Confirmed?

Regarding hand-to-hand combat, the special shows a system with light strikes and blocks that allow counterattacks, in a dynamic that resembles other action video games with physical confrontations. A new menu of drinks and food was also presented that provide temporary benefits, such as increased resistance or energy.

Similarly, three status bars for the player were confirmed: health, energy, and fatigue, visible alongside cash and bank money. In the quick access wheel, there are eight spaces for weapons and a separate section for items such as masks, glasses, and costumes.

As seen in the video, the exchange between the two playable characters is instantaneous and without loading screens when both are together. When they are separated, the game uses an aerial transition scene to switch between them.

How Does the New Police Chase System Work?

The special showed for the first time the complete HUD of a chase, with an indicator of up to six stars and four additional icons below them. These symbols indicate the vehicle’s condition, marked route, change of clothing, and presence of more than one occupant in the car.

In one of the scenes, the protagonists reduce the wanted level by burning the vehicle used in the crime, which caused one of those icons to disappear. Therefore, everything indicates that the game will require meeting certain requirements. This could be hiding, changing appearance, or separating to evade police. It is necessary to emphasize that Rockstar Games did not explicitly confirm this in the video.

What Open-World Activities Appear in the Special?

Among the exploration scenes, the video includes electric scooter rides, navigation in swampy areas, basketball, diving, jet skis, and both legal and illegal races with customized cars. Likewise, nightlife was shown with crowded nightclubs and detailed dance animations, presented as gameplay and not as cinematics.

In this regard, Rockstar Games has insisted on various occasions that it seeks a more immersive open-world experience than in previous releases. The special also included a satirical mission in which a content creator films a police chase from inside a car trunk.
