TikTok Date Ends in Shooting, Father Arrested in Ohio

A father in Ohio was charged with felonious assault after shooting a man accused of raping his 11-year-old daughter. According to authorities, the father used the minor’s TikTok account to set a trap for the suspect and lure him to his home.

The case occurred in mid-July in Grove City, Ohio. The incident sparked a national debate about the limits of vigilante justice and the role of the legal system in child sexual abuse cases. Currently, both the father and the alleged perpetrator face separate criminal proceedings for different offenses. The Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office is handling the case, which exposes the swift and violent reaction of a family after discovering incriminating video evidence.

How Did the Family Discover the Abuse?

The investigation began on July 15, 2026. According to police reports, the girl’s mother found a video on her daughter’s cell phone. The images allegedly showed Diego Montoya Gonzalez, 20, sexually abusing the minor inside the family home. After the discovery, the mother immediately contacted authorities to report the incident. However, Malik Chandler, 31, the victim’s father, decided to take matters into his own hands the following day.

Prosecutors claim that Chandler accessed the girl’s TikTok account and impersonated her. Through the social media platform, he convinced Montoya Gonzalez to return to the residence. During questioning, Chandler told investigators that his original plan was only to beat the suspect. He claimed he intended to detain him in the house until police arrived.

Nevertheless, the situation spiraled out of control. The father claimed he believed he saw Montoya Gonzalez reach into his pocket as if to pull out a weapon. Facing that alleged threat, Chandler grabbed a firearm that was on a counter and shot him.

What Happened to the Alleged Perpetrator?

When Grove City police officers arrived at the residence on July 16, they found Montoya Gonzalez sitting in a chair with 2 gunshot wounds. He was taken to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for emergency care. Days later, on July 22, he was formally arrested by a police tactical response team. Montoya Gonzalez attempted to flee on foot before being apprehended.

A grand jury charged him with 2 counts of rape, 5 counts of distributing sexually explicit material involving a minor, and 1 count of obstruction of justice. Montoya Gonzalez pleaded not guilty to all charges. The police investigation took a disturbing turn. According to prosecutors, when they reviewed Montoya Gonzalez’s phone, they found additional videos of child sexual abuse.

One of those files allegedly involved an infant or very young child. During his appearance in Franklin County Court, the judge imposed severe restrictions.
