LACDA reopened 16 public housing waitlists in Los Angeles County, with registration available from August 17 through September 16, 2026. Ten properties are designated for seniors age 62 and older and six are for general occupancy. Waitlists at small sites will close upon reaching 1,000 applications or September 16, whichever comes first.

Interested applicants must register online through LACDA’s HARP portal or call (626) 586-1522 for assistance. This opening corresponds to the Public Housing Program, not Section 8, whose waitlist remains closed.

When and How Can You Apply for Public Housing in Los Angeles?

The registration period began on August 17, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. and will end on September 16, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. However, LACDA warns that waitlists at small sites could close before that date.

These waitlists will stop accepting registrations when they reach 1,000 applications or on September 16, 2026 at 5:00 p.m., whichever comes first. Therefore, interested individuals should consider registering as soon as possible, according to the official LACDA announcement.

Interested parties can register on one or more waitlists, provided they meet eligibility requirements. The system will determine, based on household composition, bedroom size, and sites for which the person or family is eligible.

Who Can Register on the Waitlists?

Applicants can choose, according to their eligibility, one or more of the 16 available waitlists. The system will automatically determine which properties they qualify for based on their family composition.

This means that not necessarily any property can be selected, according to the official LACDA announcement. Selection will depend on factors related to the household and requirements specific to each development.

The 10 properties for seniors are designated for people age 62 and older. The six general occupancy properties are available for families that meet income requirements and household composition criteria.

How Do You Register on the HARP Portal?

Interested individuals can register online through LACDA’s housing registration portal, known as HARP. They must first create an account on the LACDA Housing Application Registration Portal.

After creating an account, they can select waitlists corresponding to their eligibility. If they don’t have access to a computer, they can call (626) 586-1522 for assistance.

The assistance line is available from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. LACDA also offers in-person help at its Alhambra offices for those who need additional support with registration.
