Knicks Parade in NY: Street Closures and Access

The New York Knicks will celebrate their first NBA championship in 53 years with a historic parade in Lower Manhattan. The city expects more than 1 million people, and the operation will bring closures, detours, and strict controls throughout the morning.

The route will take place this Thursday, June 18, from Bowling Green to City Hall, along a stretch of Broadway renamed “Champions Way.” The parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the official ceremony is scheduled for noon, according to information released by the city and NBC New York.

The scale of the event will require a special security deployment and significant transportation changes. The main recommendation for attendees is to arrive early and use the subway. There will also be severe road restrictions in southern Manhattan.

What Will Be the Route?

The parade will start at Bowling Green and travel about 1,600 meters along Broadway. The route will reach Chambers Street, in front of City Hall, where the main ceremony will be held. There, Mayor Zohran Mamdani will present the keys to the city to the players.

The city explained that the parade will be free and will not require admission. However, the ceremony at City Hall will require a ticket. There were 600 tickets drawn from the public, distributed in 300 double prizes. The drawing closed on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m.

The Knicks will arrive with players like Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges, and OG Anunoby. The celebration will include speeches, special guests, and musical performances. The city has not yet specified how long the final event will last.

Which Streets Will Be Closed?

Starting at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, parking will not be permitted south of Canal Street. Vehicles remaining there will be towed. At 7:00 a.m. Thursday, the entire area between the Hudson and East River will be closed to traffic.

Despite this, the FDR Drive and the West Side Highway will remain open. There will also be specific restrictions for traffic from the Brooklyn Bridge to Manhattan. In that case, you will only be able to travel north on the FDR.
