Trump Claims to Be Number 1 on TikTok, but Data Contradicts Him
President Donald Trump reiterated Wednesday that he is the number one on TikTok, days after falsely claiming to surpass Taylor Swift in followers, though his account does not appear in the top 50 most followed accounts on the platform.

U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated Wednesday that he is the “number one on TikTok.” The statement comes days after he incorrectly claimed to have surpassed Taylor Swift in followers on the platform. However, his account does not appear among the top 50 accounts with the greatest reach on the application today.
“I’m number one on TikTok, and all I do is talk about communism,” Trump said in Ankara. The remark came at the beginning of a press conference where he referred to his participation in the NATO leaders summit. The president again cited a supposed report “published recently” with figures he himself described as “absurd.”
Trump Insists on Figures That Don’t Match Reality
The president added that he had never heard similar figures, but insisted he holds the top position. He claimed that other famous artists appear at positions 27 or 29, calling the situation “crazy.” According to his account, his words are reaching people strongly about how great his country is.
Trump also repeated his warnings against communism, in reference to socialist Democratic candidates. These have gained ground in primaries ahead of the November legislative elections. The president directly linked his supposed success on TikTok to that political message.
The Taylor Swift Comparison That Generated Controversy
On Monday, during a White House appearance, Trump reiterated that he had been announced as the number one person on the platform. He claimed the news became known “two days ago,” with a notable difference compared to other users. He even directly compared himself to singer Taylor Swift, placing her at position 11.
The president did not specify whether he was referring to the number of followers or the virality of content. That ambiguity generated confusion among analysts and social media users. Meanwhile, the platform’s official data tells a story different from the one told by the president.
The Real Numbers Behind the Dispute
The U.S. president has approximately 16.7 million followers on TikTok. Taylor Swift, one of the world’s most influential artists, surpasses him by more than double, with 33.5 million followers. The singer has been criticized on several occasions by Trump himself, which adds tension to the comparison.
The difference between both figures makes it clear that the president is far from the top position. Yet he publicly insisted on his dominant position within the platform without offering concrete evidence of his claims.
The Actual Top of TikTok According to Social Blade
According to the tracking tool Social Blade, the current list is headed by content creator Khaby Lame, with 162.3 million followers. Following him is dancer and model Charlie D’Amelio, with 159.2 million, and YouTuber Mr. Beast, with 129 million.
Also appearing in the top positions are the institutional TikTok account, with 94.7 million followers, and internet celebrity Bella Poarch, with 92 million. As of Wednesday, position number 50 is held by Brazilian footballer Neymar Jr., with 45.8 million followers. None of these figures match the claims made by Trump.
New American Control Over TikTok
Last January, TikTok’s parent company, Chinese ByteDance, sold the majority of its U.S. operations. The transaction was made in favor of a consortium of American companies. This occurred after months of a lengthy legal dispute over the application’s future in the country.
The deal sought to guarantee TikTok’s continuity within U.S. territory. Among the functions assigned to the new companies are data protection and content moderation. This structural change coincides with the moment Trump intensified his statements about his supposed leadership on the platform.
A Pattern of Unsubstantiated Claims
Trump’s claims about TikTok add to other previous episodes where he has cited figures questioned by specialists. Analysts consider that this type of statement seeks to reinforce his political narrative with his followers. The gap between what the president said and verifiable data continues to generate public debate.
Meanwhile, the platform continues to show its own metrics openly to the public. These figures, constantly updated, consistently contradict the president’s statements about his position on TikTok.
