President Donald Trump stated that the agreement reached with Iran averts a global economic catastrophe. His statement came at the closing conference of the G7 summit in Evian, France. According to his remarks, prolonging the conflict would have had serious repercussions on the economy and international trade.
Trump maintained that the agreement achieves all that was proposed and much more. The objectives include ending the current conflict, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. The president insisted that the agreement represents a diplomatic and military pressure victory.
The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz is key to global maritime commerce. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, a significant portion of global oil passes through that route. Its prolonged blockade threatened to skyrocket energy prices and affect multiple sectors.
What Did Trump Warn About the Pact’s Future?
Despite his optimism, Trump warned that the memorandum of understanding is not definitive. The formalization of the text will occur with a signature in Switzerland next Friday. The president also made clear that compliance depends on Tehran’s behavior in the coming days.
“If they are not prepared, we will continue bombing them until they are. It’s incredible what bombs can accomplish,” added the Republican leader. This statement shows that the military option remains on the table if Iran fails to comply. The message was directed at both allies and adversaries.

Trump was accompanied by his foreign policy and economic team. Attending were State Secretary Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer also attended, according to the EFE agency.
The presence of the economic team reinforces the narrative that the agreement protects U.S. commercial interests. “If we did not have this agreement, we could have been dropping bombs for two years. The Strait of Hormuz would never have opened,” Trump said. His approach connects national security with financial stability.
How Did G7 Allies React?
During the three days in Evian, Trump discussed the text details with G7 leaders and other invited countries. The group includes Japan, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy and Canada. The White House highlighted that international partners recognize the importance of keeping Hormuz open.
The president believed this intervention should have occurred 10 years ago. He stated it would have been much easier and with less firepower. His criticism pointed to previous administrations that, according to him, allowed Iran’s strengthening and nuclear risk in the region.
