Donald Trump announced this Sunday that the Strait of Hormuz will reopen immediately following an agreement with Iran, marking a pivotal turn in the Middle East crisis. The announcement came after Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed from Islamabad that Washington and Tehran have reached a peace pact with Pakistani mediation.
How was this agreement reached?
The process began following intense negotiations between both parties with support from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, according to Sharif. The agreement includes immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, and calls for technical meetings this week before official signing. The ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 19 in Switzerland, while the document signing will be electronic.

In the latest update, Trump stated on his Truth Social network that the pact is already complete and that the United States will also lift the naval blockade imposed on the entry and exit of ships from Iranian ports. The president maintained that «ships from around the world» will be able to navigate once more and that oil should flow normally.
The agreement seeks to end the war that began on February 28 following the U.S. and Israeli offensive against Iran, while the closure of the strait had affected approximately 20% of global oil supplies.
