Israel shared with the United States intelligence information about an alleged Iranian plan. The objective would be to assassinate President Donald Trump. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal this Thursday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
According to the report, Israel transmitted the warning to U.S. authorities recently. No concrete details about the alleged plot have been disclosed. Neither have the names of possible perpetrators been revealed.
Sources consulted by CNN indicated that the warning arrived this same week. Another source noted that Washington had already been receiving intelligence signals about similar threats. However, this specific report from Israel was completely new to U.S. intelligence services.
A Warning in the Midst of War with Iran
The alert comes during a new escalation of tensions between Washington and Tehran. Both countries have engaged in recent direct military confrontations. Cross threats have intensified in recent weeks in an alarming manner.
Trump acknowledged Wednesday, during the NATO summit in Ankara, that he remains a target. He stated that there are people in Iran seeking to attempt his life. He asserted being present on multiple Iranian target lists.
The president directly linked these threats to the death of General Qasem Soleimani. The U.S. operation that ended his life occurred in 2020. It was ordered during Trump’s first term in the White House.
Trump and His Reaction to the Threats
Before reporters, Trump appeared defiant but also aware of the risk. He acknowledged having had some luck so far against these threats. He warned, however, that such luck might not last very long.
The president described his Iranian enemies as “sick” and “evil” people. He insisted on the need to eradicate that threat from its origin. His words reflected the magnitude of concern within his inner circle.
U.S. authorities had previously pointed out Iranian threats linked to Soleimani. In 2024, the Department of Justice accused a Pakistani citizen of a similar plot. That plan sought to recruit people to attempt the life of the then-Republican candidate.
Netanyahu and Trump: A Relationship Under Tension
The intelligence report emerges at a delicate moment for the bilateral relationship. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu maintains differences with Trump over strategy toward Iran. Netanyahu has pushed to maintain military pressure on Tehran.
Trump, in contrast, has sought to preserve a fragile truce following recent bombings. Some U.S. officials suggest that the Israeli warning could have another purpose. They consider that it would seek to influence Trump’s decision on new military actions.
Despite the differences, both leaders spoke by telephone this Thursday. They agreed to continue coordination between both countries facing the crisis. Netanyahu was also briefed on recent U.S. military movements in the region.
The Conflict That Offers No Truce
The warning arrives as Washington and Tehran traverse one of their most tense moments. The United States launched new attacks against Iranian targets in recent days. The action responded to accusations about threats to navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran responded with attacks against U.S. installations in the Gulf region. Trump, for his part, declared the truce reached weeks earlier finished. The understanding agreement had been signed only three weeks prior.
During the funerals of Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei, slogans against Trump were recorded. Protesters chanted hostile phrases toward the United States during the funeral honors. A poster displayed in the streets directly threatened the president’s life.
Growing Concern for Presidential Security
The report about the alleged plot adds to other recent precautionary measures. Trump used the traditional Air Force One on his return from Turkey. He thus avoided the newer aircraft donated by Qatar.
Sources cited by U.S. media indicated that the decision responded to a security protocol. They clarified that it was not motivated by a concrete and immediate threat. The Secret Service recommended the measure as simple additional precaution.
So far, neither the White House nor Iranian authorities have confirmed the plot details. The Israeli embassy in Washington also did not issue public statements about it. Iran’s mission to the UN did not immediately respond to press inquiries.
Parallel Diplomacy Despite Tension
Despite the confrontational climate, diplomatic efforts persist in parallel. U.S. officials assure that negotiations with Iran continue discretely. Both parties would seek to reach a nuclear agreement by mid-August.
This Thursday, possible additional attacks on Iranian targets were prepared during the night. Finally, Washington chose to prioritize the diplomatic path on that occasion. Military crews conducted preparation exercises aboard a U.S. aircraft carrier.
The combination of assassination threats, military attacks, and fragmented diplomacy keeps the region on edge. The future of the truce between both nations remains uncertain. The international community observes with attention each new movement of
