A survey by the USHCC and Airbnb with more than 1,200 Hispanic adults revealed that 84% believe flexible income opportunities help manage the cost of living. 76% view short-term lodging as a practical way to supplement family income, while 68% believe it can contribute during retirement.

Among Hispanic property owners aged 55 and older, 82% believe Airbnb can supplement income during retirement, reflecting a shift in how short-term lodging is perceived as a financial security tool.

What Does the Survey Reveal About Latinos and Airbnb?

The study, commissioned by the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), in collaboration with Airbnb, surveyed more than 1,200 Hispanic adults in the country. The results show broad support for flexible income opportunities, especially in a context marked by rising everyday expenses.

One of the most compelling findings is that 84% of respondents believe flexible income opportunities help families manage rising cost of living. For many households, that flexibility can be especially attractive when there is an asset that already forms part of their wealth: their home.

The survey reveals a shift in how Hispanics in the United States perceive short-term lodging. No longer just as an activity to earn extra money, but as a possible tool to address cost of living, supplement income, and build greater financial security for retirement.

How Do Latinos View Their Home as a Source of Income?

76% of Hispanic adults surveyed believe that short-term lodging can be a practical way to supplement family income. Additionally, 73% believe it allows them to cleverly leverage a property they already own.

The perception becomes even stronger when looking at older adults. 68% believe short-term lodging can help supplement income during retirement, a percentage that rises to 78% among those aged 55 and older.

Among homeowners in that same age group, the figure reaches 82%. The numbers show an interesting trend: for a significant portion of Hispanics, the home represents not only a place to live, but also a resource that could generate additional income at different stages of life.

What Do Latino Multigenerational Families Think?

The survey also focuses on multigenerational families, a common reality within the Latino community. 71% affirm that short-term lodging can meet the needs of households made up of multiple generations, while among those living in this type of family, the proportion rises to 81%.
