Enter the U.S. Without a Visa if You’re Mexican: Know About the DSP-150 Form

Mexican citizens can enter the United States without a conventional visa. The DSP-150 Form, known as the Border Crossing Card (BCC), allows this crossing. It is issued by the U.S. State Department. Its validity is up to 10 years from issuance.

This document serves as official authorization for legal border crossing. It has the size of a conventional credit card. It combines immigration categories B1 and B2 in a single format. It includes graphics and enhanced security technology for verification.

According to information from the State Department, the BCC is an independent document. It is not an informal substitute for traditional visas. It allows autonomous crossings by land or sea without showing a physical passport. It is also valid for international air travel with a valid passport.

Who Can Request This Document?

The form is issued only to Mexican citizens residing in Mexico. Having Mexican nationality is not enough according to consular authorities. The applicant must demonstrate legal residence in the country. Additionally, they must meet the same eligibility standards for a B1/B2 visa.

Among the main requirements is planning stays not exceeding 6 months. Applicants must also prove sufficient ties to Mexico that guarantee return. This includes property, family employment, or verifiable financial responsibilities. The State Department evaluates each case individually.

The legal foundation of the document is Section 104 of the IIRIRA. This 1996 law regulates illegal immigration and immigrant responsibility. It establishes the criteria for issuing border crossing cards. Its implementation is supervised by the Customs and Border Protection Office (CBP).

What Activities Does It Allow?

With the B1 category, the holder can consult with business partners. They can also attend conventions or scientific and educational conferences. It is permitted to settle inheritances or negotiate business contracts. Participation in professional events is fully authorized.

The B2 category covers tourism, vacations, and family visits. It also allows receiving medical treatment in U.S. territory. Participation in social events of recognized associations is authorized. Even amateur participation in musical or sports events without payment is permitted.

What the format does not allow is regular study. It also does not authorize working or performing paid acts before an audience. It is prohibited to work as a foreign press correspondent. These activities require specific visas different from the DSP-150.
