Social Security 2026: 2 months with double payments confirmed
Some SSI beneficiaries will receive 2 deposits during October and December 2026 when the first day of the month falls on a weekend or federal holiday, though these deposits do not represent a permanent increase but rather an advanced payment for the following month.

Some beneficiaries of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will receive 2 deposits during October and December 2026. The Social Security Administration (SSA) advances payments when the first day of the month falls on a weekend or federal holiday. However, these deposits do not represent a permanent increase or additional annual payment. One of the deposits corresponds to the following month and should be managed as part of the future budget.
Who will receive 2 payments during October?
SSI beneficiaries will receive their corresponding October payment on Thursday, October 1, 2026. The second deposit will arrive on Friday, October 30 and will correspond to the November benefit. The date is advanced because November 1 will fall on a Sunday, according to the official SSA calendar. Therefore, the October 30 payment does not constitute a bonus or extraordinary benefit.
The SSA recommends considering the October 30 deposit as the November monthly payment. Families that spend both deposits during October could face difficulties during November. Therefore, beneficiaries should set aside sufficient funds to cover food, rent, utilities, and medications.
Why will December also have 2 deposits?
The second month with 2 payments will be December 2026. The regular SSI deposit will arrive on Tuesday, December 1, corresponding to that same month. Afterwards, the SSA will send the January 2027 benefit on Thursday, December 31.
The advance occurs because January 1, 2027 will be a federal holiday for New Year’s Day. The December 31 payment will be the first deposit corresponding to 2027. If there is a cost-of-living adjustment, that increase will be reflected in the January benefit. However, the advanced date does not mean the person will receive 2 additional full months.
What is the difference between SSI and Social Security?
SSI is a federal program for seniors, blind persons, and persons with disabilities who have limited income and resources. Regular Social Security includes benefits for retirement, disability, and survivors. Most retirement and disability payments are distributed according to the beneficiary’s date of birth.
The SSA indicates that those who began receiving Social Security before May 1997 may have a different schedule. People receiving both Social Security and SSI simultaneously may receive deposits on separate dates. Therefore, not all beneficiaries will see 2 payments in October or December.
How should beneficiaries organize themselves?
The first recommendation is to identify the program that generates each deposit. The beneficiary can review that information through their personal account on the official SSA portal.
You should also check the payment concept and the specific month it corresponds to. The SSA does not charge for consulting the calendar or for receiving information about payment dates. Beneficiaries should be suspicious of messages that promise extraordinary payments in exchange for money.
